It wasn't that long ago that every woman wore a girdle. My, how things have changed. We got rid of the girdles and made a declaration of independence from patriarchy - and now struggle to find a way to be powerful and compassionate, proactive and creative, without repeating the mistakes of the old paradigm. Elizabeth Debold, Ph.D. is Senior Editor of What Is Enlightenment magazine. She received her doctorate in Human Development and Psychology from Harvard University, and is a founding member of the Harvard Project on Women's Psychology and Girls' Development. She is also Academic Director of the Conscious Evolution Master's program at the Graduate Institute in Millford, Connecticut.
