In 1983 only three medical schools in the United States (out of a total of 125) would have anything to do with the role of spirituality in healing and health care. Currently, sixty medical schools in the country have developed formal courses exploring the relationship between spirituality, prayer and health. One of the people responsible for this phenomenal turnaround is the compassionate, revolutionary, and dynamic physician, Larry Dossey. With miraculous stories from real life and explicit data from recent medical research, Dossey demonstrates that any separation between our inner ways of knowing and our outer health is a huge mistake. “The great breakthroughs in consciousness will not come out of think tanks or computer labs, but out of emergency rooms, hospice wards and clinics--because this is related to survival, this is something that our consciousness does to help preserve us, this is where our consciousness really flowers.” (hosted by Michael Toms)
Larry Dossey, M.D. is the executive editor of Explore: The Journal of Science and Healing, and served as co-chair of the Panel on Mind/Body Interventions of the NIH Office of Alternative Medicine.
