Bio

Timothy Leary (1920-1996) was an American psychologist and writer known for advocating the exploration of the therapeutic potential of psychedelic drugs under controlled conditions when they were still legal. He believed that LSD showed potential for therapeutic use in psychiatry. After being dismissed from Harvard, he continued to publicly promote the use of psychedelic drugs and became a well-known figure of the counterculture of the 1960s. He was arrested in 1970 for marijuana possession charges and received a decade-long jail sentence. He broke free of prison before being captured in Afghanistan in 1973 and ultimately released by California state governmental decree in 1976. (hosted by Michael Toms)
