Hard-core wilderness lovers and deep ecology buffs will especially appreciate this conversation with the quintessential walker, Colin Fletcher, author of The Complete Walker III (updated since this interview). Fletcher speaks of the joys and wonders of trekking in the real wilderness, i.e., no trails or improved campgrounds here . . . and genuinely explains his reasons for seeking solitude. In the spirit of John Muir, Colin Fletcher gently reminds us all of an earlier era when human beings were more in touch with Mother Earth. (hosted by Michael Toms)

Colin Fletcher (1922 –2007) was a pioneering backpacker and writer. In 1963, Fletcher walked the length of that portion of Grand Canyon contained within the 1963 boundaries of Grand Canyon National Park. Although his route spanned only a little more than 1/3 the length of Grand Canyon, Fletcher was only the second person to complete this section and the first to accomplish the feat "in one go" — as chronicled in his bestselling 1968 memoir The Man Who Walked Through Time.
