At some point in our lives, we all seek to improve our moods, heal our bodies, and reach our goals. Guided imagery audio programs can assist and reduce symptoms for those dealing with physical and mental health issues as well as situational challenges. It provides powerful ways to alleviate distress, reduce anxiety, promote restful sleep, and enhance surgery outcomes. It can improve peak performance, resilience, mastery, and creativity. Today we’ll be speaking with one of the pioneers of such programs. When she underwent a very complicated hip replacement she was able to use her own techniques in talking to muscles that were moved from one place to be used by her hip joint in another way. Here is what she said to her muscles. ”You're going to love being my hip muscle even though you were someplace else. Just work with me here.” She goes on to say, “We want an alliance with our bodies, we want to appreciate the fact that they've done the best they could. Our bodies have stuck with us, put up with our abuse, our neglect, and our bad behaviors . . . I think of my body, as imperfect as it is, as my oldest buddy and steadiest companion. . . . And, you know, as you get older, there's more cause for enlisting them to help out.” She reminds us that the language of the body is sensation and the language of the thinking mind is ideas. Guided imagery mixes them together for a powerful experience. (hosted by Justine Willis Toms)
