Here, in an exclusive interview with Michael Toms, he speaks of his positive impressions of Costa Rica, the purpose of religion, his memorable meeting with Thomas Merton, the individual's responsibility for change, and the relationship between Tibet and China. Further remarks were recorded during his visit to San Francisco in October 1989 as part of the Pilgrimage for Active Peace. In the second part of this program H.E.
