She gained national attention with her 1963 exposé on working conditions at a Playboy Club, then co-founded New York magazine (1968) and Ms. magazine (1971-72), the first national magazine run by women. Steinem co-founded the National Women's Political Caucus and, later, the Women's Media Center.
