Life is full of unpredictable and uncontrollable moments. A doctor tells us that a shadow has shown up in our cat scan. A car runs a red light and smashes into us. Our computer is misbehaving and we have to stop what we are doing to try to get a live person on the line to tell us how to fix it. These are just a few examples of the many occurrences that show up unexpectedly in our lives. So, the question is: How can we better cope with our own sense of being overwhelmed by these unbidden occurrences? Here we explore ways to be more effective in coping with the challenges of daily life as well as how we can tap into our inner brilliance. When we feel overwhelmed by the outer conditions of the world, Finley contends that it isn't life that is overwhelming us. “We are overwhelmed with resistance to life because we don't know what to do when all this energy pours in and [therefore] we experience pain. We blame the pain of this on the content of the conditions around us instead of letting the conditions become the conductor of that which awakens us to these parts that do resist life.” (hosted by Justine Willis Toms).

Topics explored in this dialogue include:

  • What Vernon Howard taught Finley about self-responsibility
  • How we blame pain on the content of the conditions around us instead of letting the conditions become the conductor of that which awakens us to these parts that do resist life
  • What is a healthy response to how life is constantly taking us out of our preferred comfort zones and into unwanted circumstances
  • What are the benefits of choosing to bring our attention interiorly instead being directed by a negative reaction outside of us that blames the circumstance
  • Why we must create a new relationship other than the identification with the life that doesn’t match our expectations
  • How it is possible to develop an awareness of oneself and from that awareness let in the intelligence to choose the action
  • In order for consciousness to be changed, we have to change our relationship to it
  • What are the three ideas for contacting the power within: Discrimination, Intention, Illumination
  • Discrimination means the difference between identifying with an idea versus becoming aligned with the idea
  • Divine Intelligence is the soup in which we’re embedded
  • What is negative imagination
  • How we may be a bridge to love
  • How we progress through different stages of life and some day come to a place of being witness to our lives instead of trying to conform the world to our own image
  • How, as humans, we have an innate herd instinct and we don’t want to be separated
  • What the seeker is truly seeking is the Divine Source and a higher understanding of that relationship
