Further explorations into the revolutionary "hypothesis of formative causation" put forth by British biochemist Rupert Sheldrake. Since its debut in 1981, Sheldrake's theory has sent large ripples through the scientific community, and has inspired experimental testing that so far has tended to confirm the theory. In this dialogue, Sheldrake describes these experiments, and discusses further developments in his theory as it matures and takes on a life of its own. Of special interest here are his comments on the theory's impact on our understanding of the mind (where is it "located"?). Must-listening for all lovers of knowledge.(hosted by Michael Toms)

Rupert Sheldrake studied natural sciences at Cambridge and philosophy at Harvard, took a Ph.D. in biochemistry at Cambridge and is the author of more than eighty scientific papers. Dr. Sheldrake is perhaps best known for his morphic field theory, which takes a fresh look at memory, habit, instinct and heredity as well as phenomena such as telepathy - aspects of human experience that are unexplained in terms of current physics.

He's the author of several books including:

  • The Rebirth of Nature; The Greening of Science and God (Bantam 1991)
  • A New Science of Life: The Hypothesis of Morphic Resonance (J.P. Tarcher 1995)
  • The Presence of the Past (Times Books 1995)
  • Natural Grace: Dialogues on Creation, Darkness, and the Soul in Spirituality and Science (coauthor Matthew Fox) (Doubleday 1996)
  • The Physics of Angels: Exploring the Realm Where Science and Spirit Meet (coauthor Matthew Fox)(HarperSanFrancisco 1996)
  • Dogs That Know When Their Owners Are Coming Home: And Other Unexplained Powers of Animals (Three Rivers Press 2001)
  • Seven Experiments That Could Change the World: A Do-It-Yourself Guide to Revolutionary Science (2nd Edition with Update on Results) (Park Street Press 2002)
  • The Sense of Being Stared At: And Other Aspects of The Extended Mind (Crown 2003)
  • Science Set Free (Deepak Chopra Books, 2012), also published in the UK as The Science Delusion (Coronet 2012)
