For nearly 3,000 years, the poet known as Homer has offered, through his epic The Odyssey, a guide for navigating life’s most turbulent times. The enduring wisdom of this extraordinary poem speaks to our lives here and now through its vivid, imaginative language, The Odyssey reveals what can happen when we break away from ordinary time and space in pursuit of our deepest longings. It is far more than an adventure tale or a historical account of Mediterranean warfare in the Bronze Age. It is a spiraling, nonlinear journey—one that tells of the agony of return and the restoration of home. At its heart, The Odyssey is the story of a traumatized warrior who loses his soul in battle and struggles to reclaim it. By facing his deepest fears and holding faith in the love of his wife and son, he finds his way back. It is, ultimately, a wisdom story—an enduring roadmap of the human soul.
