Old, young, Black, White, Republican, Democrat, Catholic, Jew, Protestant, rich, poor, middle class - all working together, side by side, building houses for Habitat for Humanity International. "From the beginning we wanted to be open to everybody. We wanted to invite everybody, out of whatever motivation, to help come and build and donate and then provide housing for all people, regardless of race or religion. We are now in 68 countries, building in 2800 cities. We want every family in any particular locality to have a good place to live. We are building approximately 20,000 houses a year." With dynamic enthusiasm, Millard Fuller has woven together stories of his own personal evolution from a wealthy businessman to a compassionate philanthropist. He tells of his friend, President Jimmy Carter's involvement in the foundation. He recounts stories of creating the opportunity for people of diverse backgrounds to put aside differences and work together, and the extraordinary outgrowth and remarkable goals of his dream. "We say in Habitat for Humanity that a house is to a family what soil is to a plant. It is a place for that family to be rooted."
