This program highlights startling new studies that have identified "biodiversity hotspots" around the globe, lands that are critical to the health of the biosphere, lands which are under the care of indigenous peoples, and are identified by multinational business interests as prime targets for massive resource extraction.
Bio
Rebecca Adamson, a Cherokee, President and Founder of the First Nations Development Institute has worked as an advocate of local tribal issues for over 24 years and has been a groundbreaking leader in fostering culturally appropriate, values-driven investment and development in US first nations communities. She currently serves on the Presidentís Council on Sustainable evelopment/Sustainable Communities Task Force and has served as an advisor to the United Nations on Rural Development and International Indigenous Rights.
Paula Gunn Allen, Ph.D. (1939-2008) A Laguna Pueblo/Sioux Indian, an educator, award-winning poet, fiction-writer, essayist and author of, among other books, The Sacred Hoop and Grandmothers of the Light.
John Mohawk, Ph.D., (1945-2006) was a Turtle Clan Seneca and Professor of American Studies at the State University of New York at Buffalo, who formerly edited the legendary journal Akwesasne Notes. He developed is developing food products based on the traditional white corn of the Iroquois and served on the Iroquois White Corn Project Board.
